Lawrence Doyle; The Farmer Poet; Of Prince Edward Island [Hardcover] Ives, Ed
“Lawrence Doyle, the farmer-poet of Prince Edward Island, lived all his sixty years along the Fortune Road east of St. Peters. He died in 1907, but his memory is still very much alive, and so are some of the songs he made up about what he saw in the world about him. In the pages that follow I will tell what I can about his life, about his songs, and about the musical and poetic traditions he chose to work in. Each of these is interesting in its own right, to be sure, but each also illuminates the others (as if they could actually be separated!) and it is my further hope that their combined light may show us a thing or two about creativity in a traditional culture.”
